This Months Blog on The Fellaheen Films Website has just gone up.
I’m primarily an Actor but also Write and Direct so here’s a bit of an overview of the bigger picture.
Directing gave me a better idea of how Actors fit in to the overall process of making a film so I’ve been trying to pass some of this on so that next time you’re at an audition you might have a better understanding of what’s going throught he Director’s mind while you’re trying to impress him/her.
The blog is also a chance for me to rant about whatever topics are on my mind / plate that month.
Feel free to comment / laugh / cry etc.
Love and hugs
Could Really Do With Some Help and Advice…

Hi there :)

I have a challenging situation, and am wondering if anyone has any advice that will help me?

I have a new website (started first week in November), which is proving really difficult to get going. One of the main reasons is, there’s nothing else like it - this service hasn’t existed before and therefore people don’t know it exists… and therefore no-one’s searching for it!

I’ve done Facebook advertising, which is very targeted, and most of my 170 members have come from that. Also, sent out a press release, did a few interviews, which also brought in some members.

I’ve done an interview with the Wall Street Journal, and the journalist now wants to interview actors and readers who have used the service… but, despite having 170 members, I don’t know of anyone who’s used it (the service takes place directly between actor and reader - and there’s no way for me to know when a transaction takes place - but I have asked members to let me know when they do use the service for the first time, and give feedback, but no-one has yet), and the journalist is chasing me because she wants to of course submit the story already! I’ve used the service myself, very successfully - but obviously she wants someone else to interview. :)

I’ve asked for actor friends to use the service (and I’ve offered to pay for the reading myself), who are willing to then be interviewed by the WSJ, but no-one’s responded to that.

Here are my two main challenges:

* Getting more traffic to the site.
I can’t afford much advertising, but have put ads on Casting Call Pro - although can’t afford to keep them up there longer since the site hasn’t taken off as I’d thought it would and those ads aren’t bringing in enough traffic; I use Social networking including Twitter and Facebook; I’ve tried to get link exchanges with other sites in the acting genre, but haven’t had any luck with that - those who did get back to me said they’d wait until my site was more established (I don’t have any page rank yet); posted in acting forums; joined webrings…. and so on. I’ve done an interview with The Stage newspaper but that’s only going to come out towards the end of January - so it doesn’t help me get more traffic now in the meantime, in order to get an actor who’s willing to be interviewed for the WSJ.

* Getting those who have joined, to actually DO something!
I’ve sent messages to all members, encouraging, guiding, suggesting… I even created an online talent contest with $100 cash as the first prize, where members could send in a video of themselves doing something entertaining, and I’d put them up on the site, and other members could vote for their favourites…. not one member has responded to that…

...so really at my wits’ end. Is there Anything else I can do? Or do I just assume that although it sounds like a great idea, it’s not actually going to work in practice, and jump ship before spending more money and time on it?

The URL for the website is: http://www.usemyaccent.com

Any feedback/ help/ advice/ suggestions would be So Gratefully received!

Thanks v much in advance.
All the best,
Any Advice on Getting Castings from Submissions?

Hi Everyone :)

I was wondering if anyone had any advice at all, on getting past the Submissions stage - to get the chance to at least audition?

I have a lot of stage experience, but have done very little screen work. I also took a few years off to raise my son, and have been getting my career going again.

I have an agent (although it’s a new agency, only been going a year), am an Equity member, am on Spotlight (UK casting directory), as well as Castnet, and I’ve been submitted for quite a lot of stuff over the last couple of years… however, I’ve not yet got an audition! I’ve had new headshots done, as I thought that may help. Also, my agent said she was told by someone at Spotlight that if you don’t have a showreel, casting agents won’t even consider looking at you. So I’ve had a showreel done and uploaded now as well.
Last week, a request came through Castnet for a small role in a feature, which I was perfectly suited for (age, appearance, type etc). Casting was going to be immediately - last week. I submitted my resume and headshot… but didn’t even get called in for a casting.

Any ideas to solve this? I’d llike to at least get the chance to show what I can do lol. :)

All the best

Hello Guys

Is anyone interested in being apart of my cold reading club, if you are please respond! cold reading club is where we suggest scripts to read to each other that we see for the first time on the day with no precious knowledge of the text, in castings you my have been given random texts that you have to make sense and read well straight away. In cold reading club you pair up before we meet and bring each secret scripts to perform from 3 different genre’s or different medium. e.g comedy, drama, commercial, play, corporate, feature script etc. The idea is we get use to the concept of cold reading so in auditions we can kick ass no matter what they pull out for us to read! In CRC we lend each other encouragement about how we can improve.

I’ve a bunch of old scripts from castings we could use or you can download script you like or bring what ever you have!

Forty years later, Caroline (one of the survivors) meets with a mysterious and tragic death.

Ralph now the only survivor returns to the scene of the original incident with a documentary crew intent on filming the Legend of Herne the Hunter.
