Categories: Mentor Of The Month
As we reach the beginning of spring and the chocolates eggs begin to fill the supermarket shelves, consider the symbolism of this season that is about to come upon us. Whether you welcome being bombarded with small yellow chicks and chocolate rabbits, my advice is to resist the tickle of the new Cadburys commercial, but most importantly recognize a new beginning or at least the transition from winter to spring.
The Actor Attainment Society was created to support, inspire, motivate and educate actors through their career transition from drama school to the industry. Some actors are fortunate enough to have received strong guidance in the early stages of their career, like actor Daniel Bayle, March and April’s Mentor of the Month.
A career can often be a rocky road to tread, so having people to turn to in the industry for support, made the early stages of Daniel’s career run that little bit smoother. He grew up in Greenwich, South East London, from a Jewish and Irish decent and admits he didn’t really like school. At seventeen he was kicked out of college for missing classes but in the end they agreed to take him back to finish his exams.
Daniel always knew he wanted to act, but it was only after he met a successful actor at a wedding party and was advised to go to drama school that he knew how to go about achieving this. It so happened that in his third year at LAMDA, after one of his final year showcases, the same actor came up to him overjoyed he had taken his advice. It turned out he was no longer acting, but was now a casting director and could offer fresh advice from a new perspective.
“I am very lucky to have people in my life that I trust and can turn to for career advice. Without these mentors I would have been very lost.”
Daniels first credit was When You Cure Me at the Bush Theatre. Since then he has worked regularly in theatre, film and television and is represented by United Agents.
“The most important thing is to find an agent that you can trust and talk to. It may take a while but it is worth the wait. You are essentially a team and I am very lucky to have found someone like this because at the end of the day you want to do them proud.”
The Actor Attainment Society is all for this kind of positive encouragement, I hope these words inspire you to keep pushing forward.
Daniel can currently be seen in A Song at Twilight directed by Nikolai Foster at Richmond Theatre from Monday 20 April 2009 to Saturday 25 April 2009.
